Amharic divorce records come mostly from Ethiopia, with some from Eritrea. In Ethiopia a court ends the marriage, and the divorce decree is the one civil record that is not issued in English, so it reaches us in Amharic only. It is read next to the marriage certificate that the district registered. Eritrea's Public Registration office issues the divorce certificate with a wet circular stamp in blue or purple, and each spouse first names two family arbitrators, who try to reconcile the couple. We translate the decree or certificate you were issued, complete, front and back.

Texliff's certified Amharic translations are accepted by USCIS, the National Visa Center, state agencies, DMVs, schools and universities, courts and more. An officer reviewing a new marriage looks for the date the divorce became final and for both spouses' names written as on their passports. A court or clerk checks the case number, the judge's or registrar's signature and the stamp. Because the dates follow the Ethiopian calendar, the translation states each one as a clear English date. The signed statement of accuracy is what each office files with the translation.

and the attorneys, employers and insurers that ask for a certified translation
Send a photo or a scan of the decree or certificate, every page, front and back. The word count sets the price, and you see it before you order. A native Amharic translator who works on civil and court records translates the file. A second linguist then reviews the names, the dates and the case numbers. You follow each step in your dashboard. The signed PDF comes with a Certificate of Accuracy, a mailed hard copy is available on request, and rush options are available.
Names follow the given name, father's name and grandfather's name chain, and no family surname is invented. Spellings match the passport. Every date is converted from the Ethiopian calendar, and the translator writes the final date of the divorce so it cannot be misread. Case numbers and registry references are copied exactly. Court stamps, the judge's signature and later certification marks are described where they sit. Rulings on custody, support and property are translated in full, and any handwritten note in a margin is kept.

Yes. Every certified translation includes a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy meeting USCIS requirements, and the same format is accepted by courts, universities, and licensing boards.
Ethiopian names chain the given name with the father’s and grandfather’s names rather than using a family surname; the translation keeps that structure instead of forcing a Western surname. Amharic is written in the Geʿez (Ethiopic) script; every name is romanized consistently, matched to passport spellings where they exist.
Ethiopian records use the Ethiopian calendar, which runs seven to eight years behind the Gregorian year and has thirteen months — every date is converted and stated clearly.
