Spanish divorce records come from the court that ended the marriage or from the civil registry that noted it, and the form depends on the country. In Colombia and Venezuela a judge issues the divorce. In Chile, Argentina and Bolivia the proof is the marriage certificate with the divorce annotated on it, and Bolivia prints that note on the back. Paraguay accepts either a Sentencia de Divorcio or the annotated marriage certificate. Costa Rica issues a Certificación de Estado Civil with a verification code. The Dominican Republic unified its formats in July 2025. We translate the version you were issued, complete, front and back.

Texliff's certified Spanish translations are accepted by USCIS, the National Visa Center, state agencies, DMVs, schools and universities, courts and more. USCIS officers read a Spanish divorce certificate for the date the divorce became final and for names that match the marriage record and the passport. Clerks and courts look for the name of the court, the case number and any ruling on custody or support, so those lines are translated in full. A divorce noted in the margin of a marriage certificate is translated too. The signed statement of accuracy is filed with the translated decree.

Upload a photo or a scan of the divorce certificate or the sentencia, front and back. The word count sets the price and it shows before you order. A native Spanish translator who works on civil and court records translates it, and a second linguist checks the names, the finality date and the case numbers. You follow the order in your dashboard. The signed PDF arrives with a Certificate of Accuracy, a mailed hard copy is available on request, and rush options are available.
Both surnames stay in the order the record gives them, and a surname restored after the divorce is translated as written so a reviewer can match it to the passport. Dates are written day first and become clear English dates. The line that makes the divorce final (sentencia firme or ejecutoriada) is translated exactly, because that is the date USCIS looks for. Case, expediente and folio numbers are copied as printed. Court seals, registrar stamps, QR codes and verification codes are described where they sit, and marginal notes on the marriage record are translated in full.

Yes. Every certified translation includes a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy meeting USCIS requirements, and the same format is accepted by courts, universities, and licensing boards.
Most Spanish-language records carry two surnames — the paternal and maternal apellidos — and both must appear in the translation in the original order, never collapsed into one. Spanish uses the Latin alphabet with accented vowels and the letter ñ — marks that must survive into the English rendering of names exactly as the source spells them.
Dates are written day-first (12/05/1990 means May 12), so every date is re-expressed unambiguously rather than copied digit for digit.
